THE BEACH.
Shella’s main attraction is its 12-km long sandy beach, which is never crowded. The beach is excellent for swimming at all tides there are no rocks or sea-weeds. It is an ideal place for windsurfing & water skiing.
BOAT TRANSFERS.
On arrival at the Manda airstrip, you will be met by our boat captain who will collect your baggage provide a porter and cart to carry it to the jetty and escort you by boat to Shella. This will save the worry of organizing your own transport.
DHOW TRIPS & EXCURSIONS.
There are many things to do and places to visit during your stay with us in Shella. We can organize any dhow trips or sea-sports which include full day fishing with Barbecue, dhow, sailing, snorkeling, wind surfing and many other excursions. We have the best dhow in Lamu and our captains and crews are among the friendliest folk to be found anywhere.
SHELLA WHITE HOUSE.
At the back of the famous Peponi Hotel and about half a minute walk away from the fabulous Shella Beach, lies a small three-storey building known as Shella White House. It has two self-contained rooms on the top floor and two others and the first. All rooms have fans and mosquito nets and on each floor there is a small verandah and a dining place. Diversified menu of seafood dishes and Swahili delicacies is offered in the house at request, but the fully equipped kitchen can also be used by guests in case they want to prepare their own food. While you are in the house, you’ll probably spend most of your time on the rooftop where the view to the ocean is spectacular. White House is small but the atmosphere is serenely quiet & private and the service is personal & friendly. Welcome to the peace & pleasures of Shella White House.
SHELLA ROYAL HOUSE.
It is a newly built house with seven big and spacious rooms furnished with beds hand-carved by local artisans. The rooms are en suite with fans, mosquito nets and hot water. The first and the second floors have three rooms each. The third floor comprises a honeymoon room and a very big, open terrace. From this terrace you can watch the dhows and boats move the sunset, the moonrise and of course enjoy the panoramic view of the whole Lamu channel.
A minute walk brings you to the Peponi Hotel and the endless white sand dunes of Shella Beach. Here the sea is clean & safe for swimming, goggling, skiing, windsurfing, fishing & sailing. When you go pick your companion well. Royal House is not to be wasted and is unquestionably the place to stay in Shella.
SHELLA REST HOUSE.
One of the oldest buildings in Shella that has been superbly converted into a ravishing guesthouse. It is a unique house amongst Lamu’ s stone houses of the last 18th Century and is located at the center of the village within easy reach of shops and market places.
There are four apartments and each apartment has two rooms, a kitchen, bathroom & toilet and a private verandah (balcony). Fans and mosquito nets in all rooms is obvious and rooms on the top apartment are self-contained.
Being the tallest building in the village, Shella Rest House provides on its roof terrace a spectacular view of the ocean and of the entire village. On this rooftop, you can eat, sleep, play cards or just gaze out at the sea. At night, it is a perfect spot for stargazing. In order to get to the beach, you only have to walk five minutes or less. It is an ideal place for students or groups of tourists traveling together . At Rest House, you can spend a truly relaxing and memorable holiday.
