YOUTH FOR HABITAT
Pilot project
Capacity building and training Programme
Project Element: Launch of the Western Kenya Branch
Implementation Plan
The implementation of this capacity building and training programme of the youth, is on the whole, an effort to translate the purposes of the Kenya National Youth Facilitating Group into an action programme at the local level in Kenya, with some selected entry points programmes in selected priority towns.
The purposes referred to are, inter alia, developing an operational structure to implement principles of community development, youth participation and sustainable human settlements, to raise awareness about the Habitat agenda and Agenda 21, as well as to promote the youth perspective in the implementation of activities at the National and Local level and lastly to strengthen the youth facilitating groups in which the
operational structure for youth participatory approach will be implemented.
The selected Towns are Nakuru, Malindi, Kisumu, Kericho and Ugunja. These pilot programmes should have their identity in the grassroots youth communities.
The focus in the implementation plan is given to the initial orientation of the branch office between 13th and 21st December 1998. Although the Kenya National Youth Facilitating Group focuses on strategy one, an overview of the entire capacity building and training programme is given which outlines seven strategies altogether.
